SAN PEDRO, Laguna – Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is leaving up to the next president whether or not she will be given a Cabinet post.

While she has something in mind, Mayor Sara said the president has the discretion to appoint the vice president in the Cabinet.

“Yes of course, but iiwan ko po yang, because cabinet position is a position of trust and confidence of the president as the appointing authority, iiwan ko po yan kay Apo Bongbong Marcos in the event na ma elect siya as president mag-decide kung bibigyan niya ako ng cabinet position,” Mayor Sara told media in an ambush interview.

“Right now hindi pa namin pinag-iisapan yan, nakatutok kami sa election day and of course sa canvassing ang proclamation rallies,” she added.

It can be recalled that her runningmate former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. bared that Duterte wants to head the Department of National Defense (DND) should they clinch the victory in the May 2022 elections.

Marcos admitted he was surprised when Duterte told her she wanted to serve in his Cabinet as Defense Secretary and he thinks it is a good idea.

The candidate of Lakas-CMD and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) conducted a house to house campaign here before proceeding to a grand rally in the city of Binan.

With only a few days left before the elections, Mayor Sara said the UniTeam will continue to woo more voters, preferably from the vote-rich provinces and cities.

Wooing voters in the country’s vote-rich regions would be the strategy during the last stretch of the campaign.

This week, the UniTeam went to Cebu, the country’s most vote-rich province with 3.2 million registered voters; then in Batangas (1.8 million) and Laguna (l.5 million).

In an interview with reporters, Mayor Sara explained this move to return to several provinces and regions that they have already visited before.

“Because dito sa Calabarzon, dito sa Central Luzon and sa Bicol as well as Western Visayas, mayroon pa akong maikampanya na mga boto,” she said.

Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) show that the most vote-rich regions in the country are Calabarzon (9.19 million voters), which includes Laguna and Batangas; the National Capital Region (7.3 million voters); Central Luzon (7.2 million voters); Central Visayas (5.2 million), which includes Cebu; and Western Visayas (5 million).

The Bicol region ranks sixth with 3.9 million voters.

The two are scheduled to visit Bulacan and Taguig City this weekend.
