THE secretary general and spokesman of the influential regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) on Wednesday said there will be no political dynastry should Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte decide to run for president, adding the presidential daughter was even against the Duterte-Duterte tandem.

“I don’t think there’s political dynasty here,” HNP spokesman and former Davao del Norte Gov. Anthony del Rosario told House reporters in an online press conference, explaining the people are free to choose its leaders through an electoral process.

Del Rosario also stressed that the lady mayor was not interested to tap her father, President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte as her running-mate if she decides to join the May 2022 presidential race.

“She is not interested and she does not see a Duterte-Duterte tandem,” del Rosario said.

He also said that leading a presidential survey is just one of the factors to be considered by Sara in making a decision whether to run for president.

“Of course having a high rating is definitely a boost for any candidate including Mayor Sara. At the end of the day, she needs to make a decision based on other factors, not only the survey. There are other factors that come into a play when thinking of running for president,” del Rosario said.

Del Rosario also said all they can do is to encourage Sara to run for President, stressing it is only her who will make the final decision.

“It is only Mayor Sara who can decide whether she runs for presidency in 2022,” said del Rosario.

Sara and President Duterte dominated the latest June 7 to 16 Pulse Asia nationwide survey as Filipinos’ top presidential and vice presidential candidates, respectively, in the May 2022 polls.

Sara got 28 percent of 2,400 respondents in the presidential race while 18 percent of them chose President Duterte as vice presidential bet.
