Sara backs Rody decision to junk senatorial bid

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expressed support for her father President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to withdraw from the senatorial race in the 2022 national elections.

In a short message posted by the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), Mayor Sara said she respects whatever is the decision of President Duterte.

“The filing of candidacy and withdrawal is a personal decision. We can only support that decision,” Mayor Sara said.

The presidential daughter is running for Vice President under Lakas-CMD and HNP which she is both a chairperson.

On Tuesday afternoon, President Duterte dropped his senatorial bid after his long-time aid Senator Bong Go formally withdrew his certificate of candidacy for president.

Reports said President Duterte really wanted to retire from politics and wanted to stay privately with his loved ones.

Prior to the withdraw, Mayor Sara announced that President Duterte is her number one senator.

Next to him, Mayor Sara named other six senatorial candidates that she is endorsing namely Mark Villar; Gilbert Teodoro; Harry Roque; Antique Rep. Loren Legarda; Herbert Bautista and Jinggoy Estrada.

She also included in her list Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
