LAOAG CITY – THE son of UniTeam standard-bearer former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. kicked off his official campaign for a congressional seat in Ilocos Norte on Saturday night by thanking his ‘mentor’ uncle, House Majority Leader and Lakas-CMD President Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte’s First District.

During his proclamation rally at the provincial capitol compound in Ilocos Norte, which was jampacked with supporters, Sandro Marcos credited Romualdez’s mentor role in his ripe bid for a House seat.

Sandro said Romualdez’s political and congressional mentorship had molded and readied him to be a capable representative of Ilocos Norte.

Marcos was acknowledging guests and officials at his rally when he mentioned Romualdez and his support, right after he recognized his parents, Bongbong and Liza Araneta-Marcos.

“Higit sa lahat, dinala ko rin ang aking amo, ang aking boss, si House Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez,” Marcos announced, which was met with a thunderous applause from the throng of supporters at the rally.

Romualdez, who was seated at the back portion of the stage along with Marcos’ parents, other guests and officials, stood up and waved his right hand to greet the supporters and acknowledged Marcos’ introduction.

“Dalawang taon po akong nagtrabaho sa kaniyang opisina sa Kongreso at siya ang dahilan kung bakit handang-handa na po akong maging congressman,” Marcos continued.

Romualdez just laughed while the overflowing crowd wearing red shirts cheered.

Marcos, who obtained his master’s degree at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, is running as representative for the first district of Ilocos Norte.

During a gathering early this month to celebrate his birthday, Marcos also acknowledged the support and training that he got from Romualdez, who is his uncle being his father’s first cousin.

“Lahat po ng natutunan ko sa Kongreso ay dahil sa kaniya. Ako po ay nagpapasalamat na nandito siya ngayon,” Marcos said of the House Majority Leader who was among those in attendance during the event.
