NAKAPAGTANIM na ang San Miguel Corporation ng 3.5 milyong puno sa 1,000 ektarya na lupa sa kabundukan at malapit sa karagatan o coastal areas sa loob lamang ng tatlong taon.

Naiulat rin ng kumpanya na umaabot sa 89 porsyento at 91 porsyento ang survival rate ng upland trees at mangrove saplings, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

“It’s been a meaningful year for us and our major environmental projects. Even as we made great progress in our river cleanup and rehabilitation initiatives–particularly for the Tullahan and Pasig River systems–progress on our nationwide upland and mangrove reforestation project has been better than expected,” wika ni SMC president Ramon S. Ang.

“It’s largely due to the commitment and focused efforts of our businesses, employees, volunteers, and community partners who have been working together to achieve our goals. As our country starts to recover from the pandemic, we will further expand these programs, which are essential to improving quality of life, supporting livelihoods and shaping an overall better future for all of us, post-pandemic,”dagdag pa niya.

Sa kabuuan ay humigit-kumulang 4,000 na ektarya sa buong bansa ang tataniman ng San Miguel ng endemic at fruit trees sa tulong ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at mga lokal na komunidad.

Malaking bahagi ng naitanim ng SMC taong 2021 ay ang 1.5 milyon na puno at mangrove mula sa power subsidiary, SMC Global Power Holdings, (SMCGP).

“We thank the DENR and our local partners for their continuing support and cooperation for our initiatives, expecially in helping us determine which tree species to plant in their respective areas. This is key to the trees’ survival and ensuring that the existing environment is not disrupted,” wika ni Ang.

“The success of our programs lies in the support and participation of communities–from farmers, to fisherfolk groups, to residents of our sustainable housing communities. In our experience, trees and mangroves planted have a higher chance of growing to adulthood if the community has a sense of pride and ownership over them, and when everyone fully appreciates their benefits–whether its shade, protection from tidal floods, better air quality, or fruits that they provide,” dagdag pa niya.

Sa taong ito, nakapagtanim ang SMCGP ng 600,014 tree seedlings at 947,752 mangrove propagules, mas higit na 1 milyong target kada taon. Aaabot sa 1.7 milyong puno ang itatanim ng SMCGP bago matapos ang taon. Nakapagtanim na ang SMC GP ng 3,476,914 milyon na puno at mangroves sa loob ng tatlong taon.

Katulong ng SMC dito ang 39 people’s organizations sa Zambales, Davao Occidental, Negros Occidental, Bataan, Pangasinan, Albay, Quezon province, at Bulacan. Ang mga naitanim na tree varieties ay Narra, Molave, White Lauan, Palosapis Agoho, Batino, Igang, at Malabayabas, habang sa mangroves naman ay Bakawan Babae, Bakawan Lalaki, Bungalon, at Api-Api.

Ang Trees Brew Life ng San Miguel Brewery ay nagtanim ng 22,600 mangroves at puno sa Mandaue, Cebu, at 1,500 na puno sa Bacolod at Tagoloan. Sa loob ng 10 taon ay nakapagtanim na ang SMC ng 1 milyong puno sa buong bansa.

Ang mga empleyado naman ng Bulacan Bulk Water Supply ay nagtanim 6,400 na sari-saring puno sa 14 ektarya sa Angat Watershed simula noong 2019 sa ilalim ng annual Million Tree Planting Challenge kasama angMetropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS). Sa taong ito ay 3,200 na puno ng narra at guyabano ang naitanim.

Nakapagtanim rin ang SMC ng 8,000 mangrove saplings sa Bulakan Mangrove Ecopark maliban sa 13,000 mangroves sa Hagonoy at Obando.

Tumulong rin ang mga residente ng Balayan, Batangas at San Miguel-Christian-Gayeta Homes sa Sariaya, Quezon province sa pagtatanim ng 2,500 na puno tulad ng langka, guyabano, mulawin, Philippine cherry, at Philippine almond.

Inaalagaan ng mga empleyado ng Ginebra San Miguel Inc. at iba pang residente ang 40,000 na puno sa 12 ektarya na lupa sa Bago City, Negros Occidental. May idadagdag na dalawang ektarya sa nasabing taniman.

Ang Petron Corporation naman ay may planong magtanim ng 50,000 seedlings sa loob ng 10 taon sa Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape. Umaabot na rin sa mahigit sa 1 milyong puno at naitanim ng kumpanya sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa.

Pinapangalagaan ng kumpanya ang 30-ektarya na mangrove reforestation areas sa Tacloban City, Leyte, Roxas City, Capiz sa ilalim ng programang “Puno ng Buhay.”

Aabot sa 2,500 na mangrove propagules at iba pang puno ang itatanim ng Petron sa tig-isang ektaryang lupa sa Bawing, General Santos City at Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
