SAMAL, Bataan – Mayor Aida de Guia Macalinao of this town sought yesterday military and police assistance in implementing the health protocols and social distancing, following the alarming surge of COVID-19 cases in the province.

Macalinao’s action came following reports that the barangay folk do not so much listen to, if not ignore, the tanods and marshals who are at the forefront in implementing social distancing.

“Hindi nila masyadong pinapansin kasi ang mga tanod at marshal, kaya iminumungkahi ko na pulis at military na ang mismong magpapatupad ng social distancing at health protocol sa mga barangay para makinig ‘tong mga ayaw sumunod,” Macalinao pointed out in an interview with this writer.

Macalinao said the main reason, she believes, for the unabated increase of virus infections in the province particularly in her town is the lack of discipline among people who continue to ignore the health protocols and physical distancing measures being implemented by the national and local government.

She lamented that despite the imposition of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), COVID-19 cases continue to spike.

“What more if Bataan is not under ECQ?” said Macalinao.

“With our meager resources, I continue to provide food and other form of assistance to my constituents and I prefer to utilize my time attending to the needs of my constituents in these times of a pandemic…,” the mayor added.
