AN armed wanted murder suspect was captured by commandos from the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) during a manhunt operation in Lianga, Surigao del Sur, on Wednesday, PNP-SAF Director Brigadier General Rudolph B. Dimas said yesterday.

The suspect, the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Lianga Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28, was tracked down in his hiding place in Purok 5 Log Deck in Barangay San Isidro in Lianga municipality with the help of informants, said the official.

Dimas said that members of the 1st Special Action Battalion (SAB) of the PNP-SAF provided tactical support to officers from the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 13 in arresting the suspect, who has been tagged as “armed and dangerous.”

He said that confiscated from the possession of the wanted suspect was a caliber .45 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing five live ammunition.

Dimas said that apart from the murder case, the suspect is also facing a frustrated murder case with a P200,000 bail recommended for his temporary liberty by the Lianga RTC Br. 28.

The captured suspect is now being held in a local police lock-up facility pending his presentation to the court. The seized gun was also placed under the safekeeping of local police evidence custodians.

Dimas commended the SAF troopers who caught the suspect and said they will be awarded for their dedication to duty.
