A MEMBER of the elite Philippine National Police Special Action Force was recorded as the 70th COVID-19 fatality in the force, PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

Citing reports from PNP Health Service, the PNP chief said that the latest fatality is a 34-year-old police corporal from the PNP-SAF unit in Surigao del Sur.

The cop was rushed to a local hospital for a check-up due to debilities last Sunday. On Monday, he was transferred to another hospital in Agusan del Sur for a thorough medication as suggested by his attending physician.

At around 6:30 a.m. Monday, the policeman was subjected to an antigen test and was tested positive for the virus.

Three hours later, while being subjected to an RT-PCR test, the cop was declared dead by his attending physician due to cardio-pulmonary arrest secondary to cerebral dysfunction secondary to vasculitis secondary to Sars-Cov2 infection.

The RT-PCR test conducted on the officer before he passed away yielded a positive result for COVID-19.

“Muli, taos-puso po akong nakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay dahil sa Covid-19. Sa araw-araw na pakikipaglaban ng ating mga pulis sa naturang sakit, ang liderato ng PNP ay nagsusumikap na bigyan ng kaukulang pansin ang pagbabakuna para sa ating mga pulis,” Gen. Eleazar said.
