SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – A police major who was abruptly relieved from his post and reassigned to the Tarlac City police more than a year ago is back as the municipal police commander in a minor reshuffle among police chiefs implemented in Nueva Ecija this week.

Newly-designated acting provincial police head Col. Rhoderick B. Campo said Major Roderick N. Corpuz has been reassigned as this town’s acting police commander vice Major Rammel L. Ebarle effective Monday.

Corpuz was the police chief here when he was ordered relieved along with four other police majors and a police colonel effective July 15 at the height of the pandemic last year. Former PRO3 chief and now chief of the Directorate for Police Community Relations, Major General Rhodel O. Sermonia ordered their relief for exceeding the 10-year tour-of-duty in their respective provinces.

This relief of Corpuz triggered the filing in August 2020 of criminal and administrative charges by Mayor Arvin C. Salonga against the police general before the Office of the Ombudsman for violation of Section 63 of Republic Act 8551 or the Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998.

Also affected in the latest revamp was the San Isidro police station with the relief of its commander, Major Joel Dela Cruz and the appointment of Major Jayson Dela Cruz as his immediate replacement. Major Jayson was the erstwhile deputy police head of Gapan City chief Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito. Major Joel is said to be reassigned to the PRO3.
