POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 11 Director Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. on Saturday announced the arrest of 11 wanted lawbreakers in Southern Mindanao amid their intensified anti-criminality campaign.

The official said that one of the suspects, identified as Joel Tee Jr., one of the most wanted cybercrime offenders in the region, was arrested in Barangay Poblacion in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, on Monday on the strength of a warrant for two counts of estafa issued by Judge Maria Estrellia Rojas of the Davao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 17 last November 15.

The 2nd suspect was arrested in Sitio Tumalictic in Bgy. Sta. Felomina in Cateel, Davao Oriental based on a non-bailable warrant of arrest for rape issued by Judge Ambrosio Moleta of the Surigao del Sur RTC.

The 3rd, tagged as the 7th most wanted drug personality in the region, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok Margarita in Bgy. Mankilam in Tagum City in Davao del Norte on Tuesday.

The suspect yielded around P6,800 worth of shabu and a marked P1,000 bill.

The 4th suspect was arrested on Monday for illegal possession of a caliber .38 revolver in Purok Centro 1 in Bgy. Jose P. Laurel in Panabo City, also in Davao del Norte.

Another suspect was arrested in Purok 22, Malagamot in Panacan, Davao City, while in possession of more than P2,000 worth of shabu and a marked P500 bill.

Silo told Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin that the six other suspects were arrested last week over illegal drugs and weapons worth at least P3.4 million.

Three suspects were known as “high-value individuals” (HVIs) in the region.

One was described as the owner of a suspected “drug den” in Buhangin, Davao City, where shabu can be bought and sniffed.

The official said that recovered from the possession of the suspects were an estimated P44,000 worth of shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia including disposable lights, improvised glass tube tooters, aluminum foils, a digital weighing scale, and the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.

Members of the Talomo Police Station 3 under Major Noel Villahermosa conducted the anti-narcotics operation with the help of the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The 4th suspect yielded about 495 grams of shabu valued at P3.366 million and an Uzi 9mm machine pistol during a hot pursuit operation in New Corella, Davao del Norte last Tuesday.

Silo said that local policemen led by Major Nidzfar Mangcabong and Maj. Dexter Cuevas arrested the 45-year-old Mangayao following a hot pursuit operation that ended in Purok 7, Talisay, Barangay Suawon, in New Corella municipality.

Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were five plastic packets containing the prohibited drugs, the Uzi machine pistol, a magazine containing eight live ammunition, and P19,900 in P100 bills.

The 5th suspect, a 54-year-old, yielded 43 rounds of cal. 40 ammunition, a cal. .45 magazine with six bullets and a box containing 100 rounds of spent .45 casings.

Silo said that his men raided the residence of the suspect on the strength of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms issued by Judge Gemma Betonio of the Davao del Norte 11th Judicial Region.

The PRO 11 director described the suspect as a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in the Davao region, which later became a member of a criminal gang engaged in gun-for-hire activities in Bukidnon and Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur provinces.

Criminal charges have been filed against the suspects, said Silo.
