ROTC tourney kicks off next week
THE 2023 Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games will kick off with its Visayas Regional Qualifying leg from August 13 to 19 in Iloilo City.
Sen. Francis ‘TOL’ N. Tolentino, the honorary chairman of the 2023 Philippine ROTC Games (PRG), said that the games will highlight not only the athletic abilities of cadets under the ROTC program, but will also strengthen their national pride.
Meanwhile, the Mindanao Regional Qualifying leg will be held in Zamboanga City from August 27 to September 2, while the Luzon Regional Qualifying Leg will kick off in Tagaytay City, Cavite from September 17 until 23.
The cities of Manila and Pasig will host the NCR Qualifying leg of the tournament from October 8 to 14 as well as the National Games Championships from October 22 to 27.
Tolentino explained that the game participants are athlete representatives currently enrolled in the ROTC program in their respective Colleges specifically chosen by their ROTC units.
The 2023 PRG will involve the ROTC units of different Major Services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP)—the Army, the Air Force and the Navy. The ultimate goal is to get people who are not yet involved with the military service to enlist and eventually join the games, according to the senator.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) shall supervise and choose select athlete representatives that will be further trained by their respective national sports associations (NSAs). From such a pool of athlete representatives, the ROTC units will choose those that will represent them in the regional qualifying leg.
The winners from the four regional qualifying legs will represent each branch of service of the AFP in the national games championships.
