REMEMBER Rosanna Jover?

In the 80s, she is best remembered as the antagonist to Janice de Belen in ‘Flor de Luna,’ the longest running TV series of that era. It also starred Dindo Fernando, and Herbert Bautista, among others.

Now, after more than 30 years, Rosanna is no more the TV contravida that she was but a well-loved dentist, Dr. Maria Rosanna Jover, in real life.

So, how was her journey from being an actress to being a dentist?

“It was a choice,” she says during a zoom interview. “Two years to college, hindi na biro ‘yung load. I really have to concentrate (on my studies).”

In the family, a college degree has always been a priority. So, after high school, she took up Dentistry at the Centro Escolar University and graduated with a Degree in Periodontics and Oral Implantology. Soon, she has also become a CEU Graduate School lecturer and board reviewer. “Ngayon po, nag-aaral pa rin ako (online) ng isang kurso related sa dentistry sa US,” she says.

No surprise that her day is full, as she’s still busy even after her clinic hours in GF Unit C Vernida 1 Bldg. 120 Amorsolo St. Legaspi Village, Brgy. San Lorenzo, Makati, 1229 Metro Manila.

But the so-called Artistang Dentista hasn’t cut ties with showbusiness. Aside from several TV guestings, Dr. Jover has also been a popular face on TV commercials. “Lahat na po halos ng produkto, na-endorse ko na,” she relates. “Nag-endorse na ako ng diaper, sabong panlaba, telecoms, cable TV, burger.”

And once in a while, the thespian in her is still able to showcase her talent through the movies her internationally award-winning indie film director brother, Ralston Jover, makes.

And now, still through the prodding of Direk Ralston, Dr. Rosanna has come up with her own Youtube channel and show, aptly titled Artistang Dentista. “Gusto ko po i-bridge ang gap between dentistry and the viewers,” she states with a periodontics-related term.

Looking back, Dr. Rosanna takes pride in having worked with some of the industry’s best–Lino Brocka and Mario O Hara, to name a few. “Among the actors, I’ve acted alongside the great FPJ (Fernando Poe, Jr.) and Ramon Revilla, Sr.”

Her rare reunions with Flor de Luna co-actors, like Janice de Belen and Herbert Bautista, are most treasured, and from time to time, they still get to communicate either through cellphone or the social media.

Her exposure in showbusiness has taught her a lot, and the learnings she wants to pass on to her only son, Luis, and even to other young people of today. “Success is achieved through hard work and discipline,” her reminder. “Anything is possible. Kung may gusto kayong abutin, kakayanin mo yan. Just take that first step.”
