SPEAKER Martin G. Romualdez on Wednesday commended the lady lawmakers in the House of Representatives for their fund-raising for charity project this year dubbed “PamasCONG Handog: Garage Sale for a Cause III.”

The charity project is an initiative of the Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc. (AWLFI), spearheaded by its chairperson, Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, and its president, Bulacan 4th District Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica.

In his message to AWLFI, Speaker Romualdez lauded the lady lawmakers for their project which devotes the proceeds to various social activities of the foundation meant to bring help to those who need it the most.

“By doing so, you have transformed this sale to transcend the common objective of trade and elevated it to that of a lofty and noble undertaking,” Romualdez said on the event graced by House Majority Leader and Zamboanga City Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe.

The Speaker said the concept and the launching of the project at the onset of the holiday session are both fitting and timely.

For his part, Dalipe urged the House employees and the public to support the charity project of the lady lawmakers.

“This activity provides us with an optimism that despite our people’s hardships, there are groups like the AWLFI who are doing everything possible to help our fellowmen,” Dalipe noted.

“Please help our lady lawmakers so they can help more people,” the Majority Leader added.

Available for sale at the event are pre-loved apparel and accessories of lady lawmakers and other government officials.

Featured in the garage sale are personal items donated by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. and his wife, First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, and those from former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who is currently the senior Deputy Speaker of the House representing the 2nd district of Pampanga.

“Let me also commend the members of the AWLFI and other participating officials for your display of generosity by letting go of your pre-loved possessions so that others may get to enjoy them at affordable prices,” Romualdez added.

Showbiz personalities like Ruffa Gutierrez, Cristene Reyes, and Karla Estrada of Tingog Party-list also graced the event.

Apart from its charitable purpose, the Speaker said the AWLFI project provides a venue for local artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs an avenue to showcase their talent and ingenuity and the opportunity to earn as well.

He noted that aside from local fashion and garments, other items for sale in the two-day event also include jewelry, health and body care products, Christmas decor, furniture, and a variety of gift items.

“I wish for the success of this ‘PamasCONG Handog’ so you can share with more people the real spirit of Christmas,” Romualdez said.
