Road accidents
THROUGHOUT the year, road accidents claim the lives of so many people – pedestrians, drivers and passengers – not only in impoverished Philippines but elsewhere.
The major causes of road mishaps are human errors, mechanical defects, overspeeding, drunk driving, overloading, bad overtaking and using phone while driving.
Other deadly vehicular accidents in the country are attributed to poor conditions of roads and highways and animals, mostly dogs, crossing our thoroughfares.
That’s why we, like the rest of the Filipinos, urge concerned government authorities to intensify the campaign to ensure the safety of motorists and other road users.
And it’s heartening to know that the Philippine National Police, through the Highway Patrol Group, is doing a great job in ensuring the safety of people using our roads.
Aside from maintaining peace and order across the country, our men and women in police uniform also provide travel safety tips to motorists and passengers.
To avoid vehicular accidents, concerned government authorities urged our motorists to avoid drinking alcohol and taking prohibited drugs before driving.
The authorities also called on motorists to stay away from distractions, such as using cellular or mobile phones, chatting with passengers and eating while driving.
Just pay attention to the road, your driving and other road users and never assume to know what the intentions of other drivers, according to police and traffic authorities.
As a well-meaning Filipino, we are all for this.
