SAYING that the flood issue is really a problem in various parts of the country, Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, chairperson of the Committee on Public Works, asks the Department of Public Works and Highways Sec. Manuel Bonoan on Thursday, Oct 13, 2022, if the department has a task force to look into the flooding problems of provinces, cities, and municipalities nationwide.

Revilla who described this problem as perennial asked Bonoan to look deeply into the issue and find the right solution.

“Please look into this, especially those places that experience floods. We should know the cause of flooding. You should also consider the dredging of the river to widen the water lanes,” Revilla said during Finance Subcommittee A’s deliberation of the P718.36 B 2023 proposed budget of the DPWH.

Bonoan who admitted that they are also looking into this problem said his department has ongoing projects and programs to address the flooding problem in the country.

Bonoan explained that the budget for 2023 was anchored on the Build Build Build more infrastructure policy of the Marcos administration.

This includes continuing and expediting the projects under the program of the previous administration which could impact economic development and recovery.

Senator Raffy Tulfo urges the DPWH to require all contractors to have third-party liability insurance coverage for accidental death or injury of its workers and employees as well as pedestrians and motorists.

While Senator Alan Peter Cayetano wants DPWH to allocate more funds to the building of parks, initially one in Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Central Luzon and in the Visayas and Mindanao area.

Cayetano also proposed developing military camps and state universities for the purpose of building parks and open spaces.
