According to a survey conducted in 2009, 45% of adults in the United States believe in the existence of ghosts. In 2020, the world locked down to fight a pandemic, and lots of people found themselves sharing a living space with what they believed to be spirits of the dead.

Many experts say the uptick in ghost sightings during the quarantine has to do with loneliness, anxiety, and fearfulness. Another explanation is that perhaps the residents have never been inside to hear the normal sounds of a home throughout the day and are mistaking it for something sinister.

However, these hauntings felt authentic to the people experiencing them during what was likely one of the most confusing and anxiety-inducing times of their lives. With nothing but time on their hands, the reports of hauntings have gone up drastically according to paranormal experts. Are these stomps, creaks, and slamming doors the result of a typical home with loud pipes or something more sinister?

Kurt Schleicher Claimed He Was Stuck In Lockdown With The Ghosts Of A Murdered Family

Kurt Schleicher wasn’t a believer in the supernatural when he moved into his Tampa, FL, home. After all, Victor Licata murdered his parents, three siblings, and the family dog in Schleicher’s house in 1933, and pre-pandemic, there was no problem. However, once trapped in the home during the lockdown, Schleicher began to experience what he believes is a haunting by the family.

Schleicher claimed his dog, a boxer, began sitting and staring at the wall in the bedroom where Licata killed his mother, randomly barking at nothing. Furthermore, he claimed the bathroom had a cold, eerie feeling that would wash over anyone entering the room. Schleicher admitted he also had more time to think of the terrible crime committed in his home, putting the heinous events at the forefront of his mind during lockdown.

Adrian Gomez Said His Doorknobs And Windows Would Shake Violently While He Was Home

Adrian Gomez lives in Los Angeles with his partner, and the two seemingly experienced strange happenings in their abode during the pandemic. According to Gomez, it was a few days into the pandemic when he heard the front door knob rattling loudly from across the apartment. Another incident involved Gomez being startled by the violent shaking of a window shade in his bedroom; so much so that he first thought it was an earthquake after eliminating the possibility of wind or an animal causing the ruckus.

Describing himself as “a fairly rational person,” Gomez was unable to explain the sudden occurrences or the stomping he and his partner began to hear from the empty apartment above them.

Brent Underwood Allegedly Had Two Ghosts Living In His Closet And Making Their Presence Known

Already living in the self-described ghost town of Cerro Gordo, CA, Brent Underwood blamed the spirits for unusual happenings in his home. Books were ripped from shelves in the middle of the night during the quarantine lockdown, and Underwood turned to a ghost hunter. According to the ghost hunter, a pair of naughty, corporeal kids were the reason for the mess of books Underwood allegedly had disturbed.

Underwood lamented living in the home himself during the pandemic, noting that he “sleep(s) with a golf club, and with the living room light on” to allay his fears.
Kandice S. Was Having Trouble Sleeping Due To All Of The Alleged Ghost Voices She Was Hearing

Kandice S. reached out to SyFy Wire to share her pandemic haunting story involving an increase in communication from the dead. A school teacher in a conservative area, Kandice claims she was very sensitive to the paranormal and can hear the dead speak to her. According to her, five or six ghosts initiate contact with her during a normal week. During the pandemic, Kandice stated that the number had easily doubled.

Kandice believes these ghosts were not trying to communicate with her for themselves but to check on her well-being during the unprecedented pandemic. She said:

The majority of activity during quarantine I’ve experienced is due to human emotion being at an all-time high and that stress leeching out to every area it can reach. During the worst of it, I would get messages of concern or warning from those souls — generally looking-out messages, warning of what’s to come, warnings not to let my guard down.

The Cowans Claimed Their Ghost Did Not Like The Change Of Schedule During Quarantine

Janie and Will Cowan were already well-practiced in co-habitation with their own ghost, Matthew, who allegedly attached himself to Janie in college. They do claim the change in schedules and increased time at their Nashville home incensed the ghost and caused him to act out. Not only did Matthew stomp up and down their stairs, he allegedly began messing with the plumbing.

According to the Cowans, Matthew prefers Janie and wasn’t pleased when Will began using the guest bathroom to allow his night-shift nurse wife to get in some sleep. At different times, Will was blasted with cold water while in the shower, finding that someone or something apparently turned off the hot water at the knob.

Madison Hill Said Something Was Moving Objects Around Her Apartment While Staying At Home

While sharing an apartment in Florence, Italy, with her boyfriend, Madison Hill was forced to weather the lockdown there. Prior to the pandemic, Hill had strange feelings about her apartment’s bathroom. She claimed to feel something watching her and believed something was tossing towels onto the floor. Once she was basically trapped in the house, something began placing missing objects out for Madison to find.

Hill supposedly woke one day to find that something found a missing camera lens and returned it to her nightstand. The lens had been gone since moving to Italy from the States, and Hill took its appearance as a hint to rediscover her old hobby during the pandemic. Hill was also stunned to find her keys seemingly moving themselves around the apartment.

Kerry Dunlap Claimed To Have Seen A Ghostly Apparition In His Bathroom Of A Woman In Scrubs

Kerry Dunlap is a rapper, teacher, and concert promoter who lives with his girlfriend Alexandra Cohl in a Queens apartment. According to Dunlap, a female ghost began appearing in the apartment during the lockdown. He claimed to first see her in the middle of the night in his bathroom, with the ghost in green scrubs glowing in front of him before vanishing. Supposedly, previous inhabitants of the apartment had seen the small Asian woman as well.

Dunlap also believes the ghost adjusted a blanket over him while he was sleeping, as he witnessed Cohl enter their bedroom from the bathroom after the event. That alleged interaction made Dunlap decide the ghost must want to keep him comfortable and happy, easing his mind.

Danielle Claimed The Lamp In Her Guest Bedroom Would Constantly Turn On By Itself

A lawyer named Danielle began her isolation prior to the pandemic due to a long illness but also experienced strange events in her British Columbia home. She claimed that something was turning on the lamp in her guestroom constantly and that it wasn’t her. After growing tired of the ghostly prank, Danielle ordered the invisible entity responsible to stop. The lamp stopped turning itself on, but she found the little-used ceiling light was now being switched on.

On another occasion, Danielle was sewing when she turned and found the fabric she had beside her was gone. She supposedly searched her entire house and was unable to find the fabric.

Kelly Best-Biagioli Said Doors Would Open And Close By Themselves When She Was In Her Office Alone

Instead of being inside her home, Kelly Best-Biagioli spent the majority of her pandemic time alone in her purchased office. She claimed the doors in her Wyoming office opened and closed on their own throughout the lockdown. She also heard strange noises and felt a presence in the office whenever she was in it.

Best-Biagioli contacted NEPA Paranormal to take a look at her office, and Alissa Caridi was happy to assist her friend in her time of need. According to the investigation, the spirit is a male who claims he is with Queen Esther. Caridi says this makes sense because the haunted office is right next to a rock monument dedicated to Queen Esther, a woman who bludgeoned townspeople on the rock because of the loss of her son.

Patrick Hinds Claimed He Saw The Ghost Of A World War ll Soldier In The Kitchen

Patrick Hinds, his husband, and their daughter left Manhattan in the early days of the pandemic to stay in a Massachusetts cottage for six weeks and ride things out. Around 3:00 am one day, Hinds went into the kitchen for a drink of water and believes he saw a 50-year-old white man in a World War II uniform sitting at the table. Hinds was slow to comprehend and alleges that the soldier vanished into thin air when he turned to get a better look.
