LOCAL Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has recalled the special orders of reassignment involving seven officers of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) implemented during the incumbency of Retired Fire Director Louie Puracan.

Secretary Remulla, through Department Order 2024-1390 dated December 9, and obtained by the Journal Group, declared REA-2024-249 and 2024-261 null and void.

Under the new order, Chief Supt. Jaime Ramirez will head back to his previous post as Director of Region 4A (CALABARZON) which was shortly held by Senior Supt. Florian Guerrero.

Guerrero, on the other hand, will return as District Fire Marshal of Quezon City.

Senior Supt. Eddie Tanawan who replaced Guerrero at the BFP-QC will resume post as National Capital Region – District 3 director.

Chief Supt. Alma Abacahin will take back supervision of Region 10 from Senior Sup. Richard Arbutante.

The two other officials affected were Senior Supt. Paul Pili and Senior Supt. Bernard Rosete.

It can be recalled that on October 1, 2024, then BFP chief Puracan implemented an order (REA-2024-249) involving said officials – a decision that raised the eyebrows of several other star ranks.

“Magre-retire na lang, gumawa pa ng di kanais-nais,” a visibly-confused ranking fire official told this writer on the sidelines after the turnover ceremony.

On October 15, Secretary Remulla issued a memorandum to Puracan to put on hold the reassignment or any movement of officials /personnel pending validation to be conducted by the DILG.

Remulla, in coming out with the “freeze” order, cited reported irregularities in handling the movement of BFP officials and personnel under Puracan’s term.

Puracan retired last November 27.
