TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. ordered the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) to convene all the municipal and city engineers to provide an accounting of all “condemned” structures under their jurisdiction for dismantling with utmost priority after the death of eight teens after the collapse of an old steel bridge in Barangay Sampaloc IV, Dasmariñas City last July 26, 2022

Remulla posted on his social media page urging local government units (LGUs) to look at the old facilities in their jurisdiction and if they should be removed or demolished so that it does not cause another incident like in Dasmariñas City.

“Magbigay pangaral sana sa lahat ang walong buhay na nasawi at limang kabataang nasaktan. Let us learn our lessons. Let us be better because of our shortcomings and mistakes,” Remulla said in his post.

Thirteen teens were “hanging out” on the bridge when it collapsed beneath the Talisayan river.

The bridge, locally known as “Tulay na Luma” or “Tulay na Hapon,” has long been closed to the public as it is “very old”, but some residents, particularly the youth, still loiter at the site despite its compromised structural integrity.

The local government of Dasmariñas, led by Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assisted with medical and funeral expenses.
