JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla denied allegations of a cover-up in the firearms and explosives charges filed against Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. following the recent dismissal of one of the charges by government prosecutors.

“There is no cover-up. Everyone has their own perspective. As far as we are concerned, we are properly pursuing the cases we need to prove,” Remulla said.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) commenced on Wednesday a preliminary investigation into the complaint of illegal possession of firearms and explosives against Teves and several others.

Teves and other individuals face charges related to the discovery of firearms, ammunition, and explosives in his residences last March 10.

According to reports, two firearms suspected of being used in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and others were discovered in one of Teves’ residences.

The police conducted simultaneous raids, resulting in the recovery of three grenades, ten short firearms, six M4 rifles, 465 live ammunitions, 22 assorted magazines, and 194 empty shells.

The search warrants targeted Teves’ residence in Malabugas, Bayawan City, where his two children reside, as well as two other properties in Basay City, and two other properties in Bayawan, allegedly owned by Teves’ secretary and his close-in security staff.
