Remulla, lawyers of sunken ship tackle cash aid for oil spill-affected fishermen in Cavite
TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Provincial Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr met with lawyers and representatives of MT Terranova, the oil tanker that sank off Bataan and caused a massive oil spill to the coastal areas of Cavite.
The forum stemmed from the Inter-Agency Meeting held at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Taft Avenue, Manila on Monday regarding the creation of a fact-finding committee that will investigate if the management of MT Terranova could be held criminally liable.
According to DoJ Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano, the meeting includes representatives of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPC) and similar Insurance Companies in oil spills.
Clavano said based on the statement of the Philippine Coast Guard regarding MT Terranova, they already see many problems.
Governor Remulla said it was agreed upon that MT Terranova will compensate 31,000 fisherfolks in Cavite affected by the oil spill.
