Register and vote

ADMITTEDLY, Filipinos are shocked by the continued presence of corrupt public servants whose “unparallaled greed” undermines efforts to hasten the nation’s socio-economic development.

And for the benefit of the tax-paying public, the electorate ought to say no to unscrupolous candidates on May 9, 2022, when the nation goes to the polls to elect new government officials.

But to be able to “judge” the candidates, qualified voters should register with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on or before the end of the registration period on October 30 (Saturday).

What should well-meaning Filipinos do now, we think, is to encourage the country’s qualified voters, many of them youngsters, to go out and register with the poll body.

“Mahihirapan na tayong alisin ang mga tiwaling lingkod-bayan kapag sila’y nasa puwesto na. Kasi kailangan nating sumunod sa tinatawag na due process,” said an irate female voter.

“Sa eleksyon, walang paglilitis at hindi kailangan ng mga testigo at ebidensya. Walang magagawa ang isang kandidato kung ayaw sa kanya ang botante,” according to the elector.

That’s the beauty of democracy, where the people, through the powerful electorate, select their leaders, including the President and Vice President of the country, the female voter added.

Thus, we, as law-abiding citizens, cannot overemphasize the importance of registering as a voter.

In fact, in the view of many, the people, from the few rich and mighty to the millions of poor and lowly, ought to prevent the election of unscrupolous candidates on May 9, 2022.

That’s why, let’s go out and register now.
