Rebel surrenders in Ecija

SAN JOSE CITY – Another suspected New People’s Army rebel gave himself up to authorities in Nueva Ecija, putting on track the government’s campaign to end the local communist armed conflict, the police reported on Friday.

Provincial police director Col. Jaime O. Santos said the rebel surrenderee, identified as alias Ka Onad/Ka Brix, a former Squad S4 and courier assigned under the Josefino Corpuz Command back in 2002 until 2004, voluntarily submitted himself to the Nueva Ecija police here on Thursday.

Santos said members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Lt. Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo in coordination with the San Jose police, Carranglan and Talavera PNP stations, PIU-NEPPO, RIU3, RID-PRO3, 303rd MC-RMFB3 and the 84TH Infantry Battalion, 7thID- Philippine Army conducted the special intelligence operations that paved the way for Ka Onad/Ka Brix’s surrender.

Santos said the former rebel personality will be subjected to routine evaluation prior to his enrollment to the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

He will also be evaluated for the availment of other benefits such as livelihood, medical, education, housing and legal assistance, in line with the implementation of the RTF-ELCAC in Central Luzon under Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon.
