STA. LUCIA nailed its first Premier Volleyball League win at the expense of PLDT, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21, in the Open Conference eliminations at the PCV Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte yesterday.

After a three-point outing in the opener, Mika Reyes came through with 11 points as the Lady Realtors improved to 1-1 in the young season.

Unlike last Saturday’s four-set loss to defending champion Creamline, Sta. Lucia produced a better effort that left coach Eddieson Orcullo satisfied.

“Actually lahat, maayos yung game. Yung buong team maayos naman yung nilaro pati yung mga nasa labas nag trabaho rin sila, ang usapan kasi sa game plan mag laro kayo diyan sa loob, mag lalaro kami dito sa labas kaya ayun, happy naman ako sa nilalaro nila,” said Orcullo.

MJ Philips and Dell Palomata combined for seven of the Lady Realtors’ 10 blocks while libero Bang Pineda was solid on the floor with 19 digs and 11 receptions.

Philips took the scoring mantle for Sta. Lucia with 14 points, Palomata chipped in 12 points while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas was the other player in twin digits with 10 points.

The Lady Realtors were holding a 20-15 lead in the second set when play halted due to a leaky roof at the venue.

But unlike Monday night’s Petro Gazz-Army match that went through an agonzing three-hour delay, the problem was immediately fixed and action resumed after a 30-minute lull.

Isa Molde scored 11 points while Jorelle Singh and Eli Soyud each had nine markers for the Power Hitters.

PLDT played much better than in last Saturday’s straight-set loss to Chery Tiggo, but coach Roger Gorayeb’s side fell short in its third set fightback, as it dropped to 0-2.

The Power Hitters threatened at 18-20 on a Soyud kill before Palomata nailed back-to-back quick hits for the Lady Realtors to give some separation at 22-18.
