PHILIPPINE National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar yesterday said at least 24 members of the New People’s Army were charged with double murder, frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the killing of FEU and former national football player Keith Absalon and his cousin in Masbate City last June 6.

Citing a report from Police Regional Office 5 director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, the top cop said that the criminal charges were filed before the Masbate City Prosecutor’s Office by a team of Masbate City Police Station officers and local prosecutors for subsequent filing before the court last Monday.

The double murder case was filed in connection with the killing of Absalon and his cousin Nolven, who were both found to have repeatedly shot in the head and bodies, after being blasted by a powerful improvised explosive device planted by the guerrillas.

The frustrated murder case was triggered by the near killing of a son of Nolven.

The accused led by Eddie Rosero are also facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives.
