GAPAN CITY — Justice has been served to a young victim after the suspect who allegedly raped her more than 25 years ago in Ifugao province was arrested on Friday night following manhunt operations conducted in this city.

In a report to Nueva Ecija top cop Col. Jess Mendez, city police chief Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito identified the arrested suspect as Romulo Garcia alias “Mulong,” 72, of Bgy. San Vicente, this city.

The suspect, who has a P90,000 bounty for his capture, is listed as the most wanted person in the national level.

His arrest was carried out by virtue of an arrest warrant for two counts of rape issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Efren Cacatian in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao on May 13, 2009, with no bail recommended.

Joint operatives of the city police, the RIU3, the Ifugao PIT, and the 22nd SAB 2SAC caught the suspect at his hideout in this city at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Desamito said the rape was consummated in Bgy. Kiling, Alfonso Lista on November 9, 1996.

The arrested suspect is now in the custody of the city police for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man also accused for rape was arrested in Batangas City.
