Random drug testing sa mga kawani ng DILG, iniutos
IPINAG-utos ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. ang pagsasagawa ng surprise, random drug-testing sa mga kawani ng DILG at mga attached agencies nito bilang bahagi ng Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) Program ng Kagawaran.
“We’re going to implement this dahil napaka-importante nito. For the longest time ang focus ng ating drug campaign ay supply reduction. So through the BIDA program, we will now address the demand side of the problem,” ani Abalos sa ginawang launching ng BIDA Sportsfest 2023 ng DILG nitong Sabado.
Dagdag pa niya: “This will also show that we, the entire DILG Family, serve as role models in our campaign against illegal drugs.”
Hinikayat din ni Abalos ang mga local chief executives ng bansa (LCEs) na gamitin ang malaking impluwensya ng sports sa mga Pilipino bilang isa sa mga mabisang sandata upang mailayo ang publiko, partikular ang kabataan, mula sa masasamang bisyo.
“Through our BIDA program, we are not just promoting a healthy lifestyle here, but we are raising awareness and encouragement for people to do away from illegal drugs and avoid its harsh effects,” ani ng Kalihim.
Ang BIDA program ay bahagi ng “whole-of-nation approach” ng pamahalaan kontra iligal na droga. Kabilang dito mga local government units (LGUs), national government agencies, at iba pang stakeholders upang epektibong isulong ang pagbabawas ng demand sa droga sa lahat ng sektor ng komunidad.
Ayon kay Abalos nakapagsagawa na ng 12 BIDA Launching Activities, 15 BIDA Roll-outs, walong BIDA Serbisyo Caravans, at 15 BIDA Fun Run activities sa iba’t-ibang rehiyon sa bansa mula nang pormal na mailunsad ang programa noong Nobyembre 2022.
Aabot sa 2,500 kawani ng DILG at attached agencies ang nakilahok sa ginawang opening ceremony sa PNP Headquarters sa Camp Crame kung saan magtatagisan ang mga kawani ng DILG sa iba’t-ibang sports tulad ng basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, pati na sa Zumba festival, photography contest, poster-making contest, at banner-making contest.
