Quezon gov’s hometown now ‘insurgency-free’

GUMACA, Quezon – Following the continuing joint efforts of the military, the police, civic and religious groups, and the local government units (LGUs), this progressive hometown of Governor Angelina “Helen” Tan is now declared an “insurgency-free” municipality on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the “Declaration of Stable Internal Peace and Security” (SIPS) was signed by Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG) Region 4-A Director Ariel Iglesia, Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo, Quezon Police Provincial Director Col. Ledon Monte, Philippine Army 85th Infantry Battalion (IB) Commander Col. Joel Jonson, Quezon Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC) Commander Major Deo Calawit, Gumaca Police Station Commander Maj. Reden Romasanta, other local officials, barangay officials, and representatives of different sectors.

In his message, Letargo extended his gratitude to all the concerned sectors, especially the military and the police, for doing their part and sharing their contributions to keeping Gumaca a “peaceful and progressive town, and a better place to live in.”

A coastal town in the fourth district of Quezon, Gumaca is a first-class municipality with almost 92,000 people, according to the 2020 Census.

Hundreds of millions worth of infrastructure projects, including bypass roads, have been put up in this town by then Quezon Representative and now Governor Tan.
