Quezon cops colar 2 wanted rebels; seize gun, bombs

wantedSARIAYA, QUEZON— Combined police teams on Wednesday arrested two wanted communist guirillas in Sitio Centro, Brgy Manggalang 1, here.

Quezon police director, Col. Joel Villanueva identified the arrested suspects as Erlindo Custodio, alias Lino/Haligi, 53, native of San Juan Batangas and resident of Brgy. San Vicente, Sto Tomas Batangas and Wilfrido Caparaño, alias Willy, 60, native of Balanga, Bataan and resident of Brgy Dayapan, Lemery, Batangas.

In his report to Calabarzon police director, Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz, Villanueva said the suspects were collared by joint elements of 1st Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company under Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes, Sariaya Municipal Police Station under Lt. Col. William Angway , and Provincial Intelligence Unit.

Villanueva said the lawmen carried out the operation on the strength of two arrest warrants issued by Judge Jose Ricuerdo Policarpio Flores of Tanauan Regional Trial Court, Branch 6 with no recommended bail bond.

During the arrest, Reyes said the duo yielded a cal. 45 Norinco pistol, two hand grenades and several ammunitions for the said caliber.

The nabbed suspects are now under the custody of 1st QPMFC Headquarters for investigation and proper documentation while the recovered pieces of evidence will were turned over to Provincial Crime Laboratory Unit and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Quezon for forensic analysis.

Complaints for violation of illegal possession of firearm and of explosives have been file before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Lucena City.

Villanueva reminded all Quezon Police forces to be always alert and vigilant and strengthen defense of camps, police stations and other vital installations to prevent possible attacks of communist rebels. He also encouraged the public to continuously support the government security forces in maintaining peace and order.
