QUEZON City mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor and his running mate Winnie Castelo have vowed to work for the landslide victory of UniTeam tandem former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

They, together with their candidates under the Malayang Quezon City coalition, made the promise during a massive rally held in Batasan Hills on Wednesday night.

Marcos Jr. attended the assembly, while Duterte was represented by Sen. Ronald dela Rosa. Defensor and Castelo are UniTeam’s candidates in Quezon City.

Calling BBM as the country’s next president, Defensor said, “Mr. President, you and Mayor Sara are very popular here. I am sure you will win in our city, but we will try our best to deliver 90 percent of the votes.”

Addressing the huge crowd, Marcos Jr. said Quezon City deserves Defensor and Castelo as its next mayor and vice mayor.

They know the problems of the city, which are also the challenges the nation is facing, he said, citing housing as an example. “Mayor Defensor mentioned housing. You know, it was here in Quezon City that the BLISS (Bagong Lipunan Improvement of Sites and Services) started (during the Marcos administration),” he said.

Defensor promised his constituents that he and Castelo would work on solving the perennial housing problem in the city. “There are at least 300,000 families who are still homeless in Quezon City.

Here in the national government center in Batasan, I, together with Councilor Winnie Castelo, have obtained a proclamation giving 70,000 families the right to buy the government land they occupy,” he said.

He said the process of acquiring and distributing the land, which is being undertaken by the National Housing Authority, should be transferred to the city government so it could be expedited.
