ACTING Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Colonel Melecio M Buslig, Jr has ordered a thorough investigation into the Molotov-throwing incident that damaged the car of a photojournalist last week.

According to Buslig Jr., assigned operatives have already started backtracking review of closed circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area to establish the identity of individuals who could possibly be behind the February 19 explosion` in front of house No. 12 Matipuno Street, in Bgy. Pinyahan.

The incident that happened at around 2:35 a.m. damaged the Toyota Vios of Philippine Star’s photographer Michael Varcas.

Varcas has already named a suspect but the Kamuning Police Station (PS 10) withheld the details saying it could burn down the ongoing investigation.

Police said that the initial investigation showed that the “molotov” used by the suspects did not contain any explosive substance or material but only a plastic bottle with gas.

Varcas told reporters that prior to the explosion, he heard a motorcycle arriving near the apartment which he first thought was a robber.

“Nakarinig ako ng may sumabog at nakita ko ang kotse ko umaapoy,” he said.

The photojournalist said he has not ruled out possibilities that the attack could be related to the photographs he has taken which have drawn various reactions online.
