TWO persons were arrested for violating the nationwide gun ban on Monday morning in Quezon City.

PLt. Col. Richard Ian T. Ang, station commander of Novaliches Police Station (PS 4), identified the suspects as Aldrin Nievez, 21, resident of Brgy. Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City, and Eugene Pilicano, 40, resident of Brgy. Sta., Monica, Quezon City.

PS 4 personnel were conducting law enforcement and Comelec checkpoint at about 2:30 a.m. of January 31, 2022, along Gen. Luis St., Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches, Quezon City. During the operation, police officers flagged down one black Rusi motorcycle driven by Nievez with Pilicano as the back rider for not wearing their protective helmets.

However, when the police officers are about to inspect the suspects, they noticed the firearm protruding at Nievez’s waistline, thereby prompting them to examine the latter’s Permit to Carry Firearm Outside Residence (PCOR) and certificate of authority for exemption from Comelec gun ban, but he failed to present any.

During the ensuing search, incidental to a lawful arrest, Pilicano yielded another firearm with ammunition in his bag and failed to show any documents to support the same.

Recovered from the two suspects were two caliber .38 revolvers with three ammunition each, a black Rusi motorcycle without plate number, and a sling bag.

The suspects will be charged for violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition in relation to Batas Pambansa Blg. 881 or the Omnibus Election Code before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

“The QCPD’s COMELEC checkpoints in strategic areas become more relevant these days to strictly enforce election-related policies and prevent perpetration of criminal activities. Hence, we appeal for public support and cooperation as these operations are intended to protect them and the community,” said QCPD director PBGen. Antonio Yarra.
