QCPD collars 21 ‘holiday gamblers’

IN line with Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD) continuing and aggressive operations against all forms of illegal gambling, QCPD Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas D. Torre III announced the arrest of 21 suspected illegal gamblers by personnel of Payatas Bagong Silangan Police Station (PS 13) and Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14).

On the first operation, P/Lieutenant Col. Roldante Sarmiento, station commander of PS 13, arrested two suspects at about 11:20 a.m., December 25, 2022, along Sitio Veterans, Quezon City, for playing “cara y cruz.”

leven persons were also arrested by operatives of PS 13 after they were caught playing “tupada” (illegal cockfighting) on December 25, 2022, in Bgy. Payatas.

Operatives of PS 14 under P/Lt. Col. Alex DJ Alberto arrested six suspects, all residents of Bgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City, at about 12:05 a.m. of December 26, 2022, along Sto. Rosario St. Republic Ave. Bgy. Holy Spirit, QC, for playing “pusoy.”

Same operatives of PS 14 nabbed two residents of Bgy. Pasong Tamo, QC at about 6:00 p.m. of December 25, 2022 along Sitio Barimbao at the said village for playing cara y cruz.

Several bet gambling paraphernalia and bet money were confiscated.

The suspects will be charged for violating PD (Presidential Decree) 1602 or the Anti-Illegal Gambling before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Torre III commended the personnel of PS 13 and PS 14 for their intensified operations against illegal gambling, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of pieces of evidence.

“Mahigpit na ipinatutupad ng inyong kapulisan ang pagbabawal sa ilegal na pagsusugal kung kaya’t hinihimok ko ang bawat QCitizens na huwag ng magsugal dahil ito ay may karampatang parusa. We will do our best to eradicate all forms of gambling in our city,” he added.
