QC rob suspect grabs cop’s gun, neutralized

QUEZON City Police District (QCPD) Director, Police Brigadier General Nicolas D Torre III announced the neutralization of a robbery suspect in an armed encounter with a member of Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14) Sunday morning in Quezon City.

PLTCol. May Genio, Station Commander of PS 14, identified the slain suspect as Jose Lemery Palmares Jr., 33, and resident of Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

A report showed that prior to the armed encounter, the suspect was allegedly involved in a robbery hold up at about 4:31 p.m. on February 4, 2023 at the Balai Pandesal/Soya Bean Outlet located along the Congressional Extension in Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City.

PS 14 operatives immediately conducted a follow up operation at about 5:10 a.m.of February 5, 2023 in Sitio Balud, Congressional Avenue Extension which led to the arrest of the suspect.

While the suspect was undergoing booking procedure inside the Police Community Precinct 1, he allegedly grabbed the service firearm of Investigator-On-Case, PSSg Juderick M Latao that ensued to a scuffle.

Upon sensing that his colleague was in danger, a police officer had no other recourse but to shoot the suspect.

The suspect was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) under PCPT Eric Angayangay recovered from the crime scene was a fired cartridge case.

PBGEN Torre III commended the operatives for their prompt response resulting in the neutralization of the suspect. “Ginagampanan ng ating kapulisan ang kanilang tungkulin subalit kailangan din nilang protektahan ang kanilang sarili sa anumang kapahamakan kung kaya naman nananawagan kami sa mga suspek na huwag nang magtangkang lumaban pa upang maiwasan ang ganitong insidente,” he added.
