Purchase of missiles
IT is, without doubt, heartening to know that the Philippine goverrnment is determined to continue with its capability upgrade.
Of course, this includes the possibility of purchasing intermediate range missile launchers from the United States of America.
This, despite the objections of China, which continues to harass Filipino fishermen operating in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The acquisition of the missile system is part of the country’s military capability upgrade.
No less than Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. announced the planned acquisition of the US Typhoon missile system.
The missile system was brought to the country last April as part of the “Balikatan” war games between American and Filipino soldiers.
Earlier, China described the planned acquisition of the US missile system as as a “provocative” and “dangerous” move.
However, defense secretary, who is a bar topnotcher, said “it’s none of China’s business.”
Of course, we, as a well-meaning Filipino, share the view of Secretary Teodoro.
Teodoro added: “What happens within our territory is for our defense. We follow international law. What’s the fuss?”
