PUP PhD Comm Research Papers presented in Vietnam int’l confab
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — Five research papers of the students of the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) were presented at the 2024 Asian Congress for Media and Communication International Conference that was held in this city on Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, 2024.
The five research papers were among the 156 accepted papers that were presented during the conference with the theme, “Media Constructive, Constructive Media,” and was attended by participants from 17 countries in the Asia and the Pacific Regions.
According to ACMC Executive Director Dr. Walter Y. Yudelmo, the organization received more than 300 abstracts from different universities in 17 countries wherein they were blindly reviewed.
After conducting a double-peer review, the ACMC conference committee has accepted and approved 156 abstracts for presentation during the international conference.
The resesrch papers presented were titled as “Deconstructing Cyborgs: An Exploration of Representation in Philippine News Media (Critical Discourse Analysis),” presented by Imelda Benitez-Dometita and was co-authored by Robbie Jan Vincent Buelo, Rey Guerzon, Diondy Palagtiw, Maristel Silva and Cecilia Suerte Felipe, DPA; “Global Perspective and Philippine Situation on AI Integration in Education: A Bibliometric Sketch,” presented by Rodrigo Rivera; and “Quantifying Selected Students’ Artificial Intelligence Readiness and Extent in Research at Visayas State University-Isabel Campus,” presented by Jonathan Joyo and was co-authored by Renarlyn Tinagan.
The other research papers presented were “Roving the Road: Exploring the Autoethnography of MotoVloggers on Driving Cultures of Filipino Motorists,” presented by Robbie Jan Vincent Buelo and was co-authored by Babsie Morabe and “Analysis of the Social Media Activities of Metro Manila-based Journalists,” presented by Maria Socorro M. Victorio.
The presenters and co-authors of the said papers are part of the pioneer batch of the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication at the PUP Sta. Mesa.
Dr. Jose Reuben Alagaran, lll, chair of PUP PhD Communication department and concurrentlt dean of PUP Communication department, led the PUP PhD Comm student delegates and one of the plenary session speakers.
