
PUP charter changes pushed
ACT-CIS Representative Erwin Tulfo and four other solons introduced a bill that seeks to amend the Presidential Decree 1341 or the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) charter.
In filing House Bill 9060, Tulfo underscored the need to modernize the PUP, which is one of the country’s state universities, in order for it to dopt in changing needs of modernize education.
A similar bill was filed by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez along with Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez and Rep. Jude Acidre.
Tulfo and his colleagues said, PD 1341, which established the PUP in 1978, requires updating to address the evolving educational landscape.
The proposed changes are intended to ensure that the PUP remains a relevant and effective institution, committed to high-quality education, innovation, and socio-economic development.
Aside from Tulfo, other authors are ACT-CIS party-list Reps. Edvic Yap and Jocelyn Tulfo; Benguet Rep. Eric Yap and Quezon Rep. Ralph Tulfo.
“These measures are driven by the fundamental goal of elevating the quality of education and nurturing academic excellence within PUP,” the lawmakers said in the proposed measure.
“Foregoing considered, the bill reflects the government’s dedication to advancing education and academic excellence through modernizing,” they added.
