PSPG member, fake NBI agent nabbed for kidnap
NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Major General Vicente D. Danao Jr. on Sunday announced the arrest of a member of the Police Security and Protection Group and a fake National Bureau of Investigation agent for involvement in a kidnapping case in Manila.
The official identified the suspects as Patrolman Wilfredo Mindanao, a 42-year old PSPG member assigned at the Comelec office and civilian Romeo Diño Aday,47.
Danao said that the suspects will be facing charges for kidnapping with serious illegal detention, usurpation of authority and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2013.
According to the NCRPO chief, the two were arrested by members of the Manila Police District under Brigadier Gen. Leo M. Francisco around 9 a.m. last Friday at the Trece de Agosto Bridge in Barangay 679, Paco, Manila.
Maj. Gen. Danao said that prior to the arrest of the two, the MPD Station 5 Police-Community Precinct received information regarding an alleged kidnapping incident in the area wherein a 54-year old man was asked to pay a P50,000 ‘ransom’ to the suspects in exchange for his release.
Reports said that the man was arrested by Aday who introduced himself as an “NBI Agent’ for alleged illegal possession of shabu. Aday was later joined by Mindanao in taking custody of the man and allegedly demanding money for his release.
Acting on the report, the MPD officers conducted a hot pursuit operation which led in the rescue of the victim and the arrest of the two suspects inside Pat. Mindanao’s house.
When frisked, the suspects yielded one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing about one gram of shabu worth P6,800 and three mobile phones.
Maj. Gen. Danao commended the MPD agents for arresting the duo and rescuing the victim.
“Lubos ko pong ikinagagalak ang mabilis na pagresponde ng ating mga kasama na naging sanhi ng agarang pagkahuli sa mga suspects at pagkaligtas sa ating biktima. Sa mga kasong ganito, napakahalaga po ng oras. Kung kaya’t malaking hamon po sa ating kapulisan ang mabilis na paghanap at paghuli sa mga sangkot.,” the NCRPO director said.
Danao said he has ordered a thorough background investigation on Pat. Mindanao in line with their strict adherence to the intensified cleansing effort of Philippine National Police chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar.
