HOUSE committee on appropriations chairman and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co is open to studying the suggestion of Ombudsman Samuel Martires to remove from the general provisions of the General Appropriations Act (GAA) the publication requirement of the Commission on Audit’s (CoA) annual reports.

“I will carefully evaluate the impact and implications of such action.

I understand the concern about preventing premature judgments and confusion among the public when reading audit reports,” Co said.

“The impact of such publications on government officials’ reputations is an important consideration. Rest assured that Ombudsman Martires’s proposal will be discussed thoroughly, and we will engage in a comprehensive review to determine the best course of action in line with our commitment to transparency and accountability in government,” Co explained.

The House of Representatives will begin this Tuesday with the plenary deliberations of the proposed P5.768-trillion outlay for 2024.

Last Thursday, the Co panel held an executive committee meeting. Marikina City 2nd District Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo, the senior deputy vice chairperson of the committee, said that CoA publication requirement remained intact.
