NAVOTAS City police chief P/Col. Dexter Ollaging ordered a thorough investigation on the death of 34-year-old man allegedly due to a labor accident after it was reported to the police more than 24-hours after the incident.

Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) and homicide investigators who responded to the crime scene failed to process the area where the said labor accident happened that resulted in the death of Marjun Rafael, rigger at the container yard and resident of Blk. 20, Lot 100, Dalagang Bukid St. Brgy. Longos, after they discovered that the place was already contaminated.

Initial investigation conducted by Navotas police homicide investigators P/SSgt. Levi Salazar and P/Cpl. Reysie Peñaranda showed that the accident transpired at about 1:45 a.m. on October 17, 2021 inside Sea Box Container Yard, B-1 Area, Tower B, located along H. Lopez Blvd. Brgy. NBBS Proper.

Rafael, along with tower crane operator Joseph Nudo, 48 and victim’s elder brother Marlon, 40, were transferring the 40-footer reaper container when one of the angle support hooks of the container accidentally went off and hit the head of the victim.

Personnel from the Container Yard rushed the victim to Tondo Medical Center with the assistance of Navotas Action Command Center but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Col. Ollaging said investigation will proceed pending the result of an autopsy examination that will determine the real cause of victim’s death.
