Probe into attempted resale of seized contraband cigarettes pressed
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian has called for a full investigation into the attempted resale of confiscated contraband cigarettes, urging authorities to take decisive action against those responsible.
“The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) must leave no stone unturned in their investigation of the attempted resale of seized contraband cigarettes,” Gatchalian stated.
He emphasized that those behind the illegal act must be unmasked and held accountable, adding that mere termination from service is not enough—prosecutions and convictions must follow.
He stressed: “Hindi puwedeng magbulag-bulagan ang mga awtoridad. Kapag may ninakaw sa taumbayan, dapat may nananagot. Tuldukan na ang matagal nang masamang gawaing ito!”
The senator’s remarks come amid growing concerns over corruption within government agencies tasked with enforcing trade regulations. He underscored that failure to take action would constitute a betrayal of public trust.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the incident, but pressure is mounting for swift action against those involved.
