PRO8 agents arrest college student cum-drug dealer in Samar sting

A 2ND year college student accused of involvement in illegal drug trafficking activities in Catbalogan City in Samar province was arrested in a buy-bust operation by the local police on Friday, the Journal Group learned.

Suspect Jose Paulo Tuazon, a 27-year old resident of Purok 1 in Barangay Mercedes, Catbalogan City is now facing charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said a report to Police Regional Office 8 director, Brigadier General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil.

According to Catbalogan City Police Station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan O. del Rosario, the suspect yielded three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the buy-bust money during an anti-narcotics operation in his neighborhood around 2:35 p.m. Friday.

Undercover officers from the Catbalogan CPS Drug Enforcement Unit led by Captain Niño Cabañas and the Samar Police Provincial DEU headed by Cpt. Michael Ray Cañete arrested the student-cum-drug dealer following weeks of surveillance.

The accused was locked up at the local police jail after being informed of his constitutional rights while the recovered pieces of drug evidence were forwarded to the PRO8 Forensics Group for laboratory examination after the sting which was witnessed by representatives from the local Department of Justice, barangay and the media.

Brig. Gen. Marbil commended the Samar PPO headed by Col. Peter U. Limbauan and the Catbalogan CPS under Lt. Col. del Rosario for their latest accomplishment in the PRO8’s campaign against illegal drug trafficking.

Del Rosario also thanked Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy for his full assistance to their sustained war against drugs and criminality.

“The instruction of Mayor Uy is very clear, we should get rid of illegal drugs in the whole city of Catbalogan,” the official said.
