NEARLY two kilograms of shabu worth around P13 million were seized while 119 drug targets were jailed by agents of the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) during the 1st week of the creation of an inter-agency task force in Cebu Island to battle drug trafficking and addiction, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

The huge anti-drug accomplishment made by the Central Visayas police force came a week after the One Cebu Inter-Agency Interdiction Task Force was officially activated last December 7 by the Cebu provincial government headed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, the PRO7 under Brigadier General Roderick Augustus B. Alba and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency under Director General Moro Virgilio M. Lazo.

Brig. Gen. Alba reported to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. that the One Cebu I-AITF will be fully partnering with national and local government officials to further strengthen their efforts to arrest the entry and proliferation of illegal drugs in Central Visayas.

Alba described the creation of the One-Cebu I- as a huge advantage to the PNP organization as it aligned the goals of Gov. Garcia in battling the drug problem in Cebu by particularly strengthening their border security.

“Gov. Garcia want an enhanced collaboration and cooperation among agencies of the government and stakeholders aiming for a peaceful, orderly and progressive Central Visayas community,” he said.

The official also expressed his gratitude to Gov. Garcia, described as Cebu’s Drug Czar for pouring her support to Team PNP Region 7.

“We will continue to intensify border protection measures and better policing strategies against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region,” he said.

On Saturday, the official also reported the arrest of two known drug personalities in Bohol province.

He said that Ricardo Salvani,34; and Jovilyn Bete,28, both residents of Tawala, Panglao, Bohol were arrested after they allegedly conspired to sell drugs to an undercover officer.

Confiscated from the two were some 16 grams of shabu worth P108,800.

The arrested suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Brig. Gen. Alba said.
