CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Since the start of “Oplan Double Barrel” in 2016, 63 cops all over the Central Luzon region have either died or were wounded while conducting the “war on drugs”.

The “war on drugs” has not solely taken its toll on drug suspects and users who were killed in legitimate drug operations by the police.

While records showed that there were 62,516 persons arrested and 2,423 drug suspects who died since 2016, the number of Central Luzon cops killed and wounded during actual police operations proved that there are always “two sides to the coin”.

Of the 63 cops, 18 were killed, and 45 were wounded while performing their duties to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs from the start of the implementation of Oplan Double Barrel.

These efforts yielded 820,849.15 grams of shabu and 1,193,189.98 grams of marijuana seized since 2016.

“It pains us to know that some of our members were harmed and even killed in line with our diligent efforts to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs. But the primary duty of men and women in uniform across the region and the country is to keep our communities safe, secure, and drug-free even if we put ourselves in peril. Still, we are committed to our ‘war’ against illegal drugs and will continue to be relentless in our campaign at all costs,” said PRO3 (Police Regional Office 3) Director Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay.
