Pregnant cop, baby die of COVID-19

A PREGNANT policewoman and her baby died of COVID-19, making the cop the 123rd virus fatality in the 222,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP) since March last year.

PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the pregnant policewoman assigned in Central Luzon who died last Sunday due to Acute Respiratory Syndrome secondary to COVID-19.

Based on her medical records, the policewoman was admitted to a hospital in Baler, Aurora due to due to difficulty of breathing last October 8. She later tested positive for COVID-19.

Last October 10, the policewoman was transferred to a hospital in Nueva Ecija where she underwent an emergency caesarian operation, delivering a baby boy who died on the same day.

The policewoman remained in the hospital until she was declared dead by her attending physician last October 17.

“Lubos po ang ating pakikidalamhati at pakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay. Noon pa man po ay nagpalabas na tayo ng kaukulang utos hanggang sa mga police stations para sa ating babaeng pulis at NUP na sila ay mag-work-from-home scheme upang maiwasan ang pagkahawa sa COVID-19”, Gen. Eleazar said.

Meanwhile, the PNP Health Service noted a steady decrease in new cases.

As of Monday, only 47 new cases were tallied bringing the total cases to 41,311 with 941 ‘active cases.’ A total of 58 recoveries were also noted raising the number of recovered personnel to 40,248 since March 2020..

Further, about 85.96 percent of the entire PNP strength or 191,757 in all are now fully protected with the required vaccine doses against the virus while 12.31 percent r 27,470 personnel have received their 1st doses.

With these numbers, only 1.72 percent or 3,840 personnel are yet to receive the vaccine, said PNP-HS director, Brigadier Gen. Antonino R. Cirujales.
