TO help cope with the increasing admissions due to COVID-19, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has set up a medical tent in the Benguet General Hospital as an extension ward.

Sen. Richard J. Gordon, PRC chairman and CEO, said the tent was set up last Sept. 12, in response to the local government unit’s hospital’s request for assistance due to the increasing admissions in the hospital.

“Ang Red Cross ay isa sa nangunguna pagdating sa COVID-19 response, dahil sa kakulangan ng facilities ay kaagad na nating ipinatayo ang medical tent sa Benguet General Hospital para makapagbigay tulong sa mga taong may kailangan ng facilities upang sila ay kaagad na gumaling,” he said.

Gordon added the new air-conditioned medical tent has a 10-bed capacity ready to cater to mild to moderate COVID-19 cases. The PRC Benguet Chapter will also install a portalet to provide access to proper hygiene.

This initiative by PRC is in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The PRC has already set up 70 medical tents in 32 hospitals, which are now catering to some 34,686 COVID patients.
