According to the paranormal manager at the former Bodmin Jail in Bodmin, Cornwall, England, there have been several possessions that have taken place there. In fact, she said that they are a common occurrence.

Spiritual communicator and clairvoyant Kirsten Honey explained what normally happens at the former jail which is now a tourist attraction, “On a regular basis we have touching, feeling, poking, having hands held onto people, people talking to you, noises that are just out of the blue that can’t be placed with anything physical… There is so, so much that happens here at Bodmin Jail.”

She went on to describe the experiences that she has had while working there, “I kind of thought you would have the odd movement, the odd shadow. What I didn’t expect was full on paranormal activity – interaction at its greatest, being held onto, being hugged, being told a story, being actually spoken to in real time, hearing and seeing poltergeist activity.”

But encountering a ghost is much different than actually being possessed; however, Kirsten claimed that they aren’t demonic possessions and that they are much different than how movies represent them. “Possession at Bodmin Jail is a submersion of energy feels,” she said. “You’re overwhelmed, you’re overcome by a sense of change of atmosphere for you or complete change in personality. You get a distancing from yourself. It can have a dramatic affect on people, it can actually be quite traumatic in a sense.” “Although they recover very, very quickly, you definitely have that impact, you know possession has happened for you.”

Between the years 1779 and 1927, over 35,000 inmates were housed at Bodmin Jail and that included 341 children. A total of 55 people (which included 8 women) were executed by hanging. And of course there are tons of ghost stories. One spirit in particular that often appears to visitors is a female who has been described as being “agitated” and those who have seen her have felt very uneasy. There is even a photograph that was taken by Kirsten and appeared to show the female entity in the Naval Wing of the building. (That photo can be seen here.)

Another ghost that has been witnessed at the jail is a jealous man who killed his lover after she dumped him (perhaps it was William Hampton who was executed). The spirit of a female inmate named Selina Wadge has also been seen. She was convicted of murdering her youngest son Harry and was executed in 1878. She has made her presence known especially to children who have asked who the crying lady in the long dress was. Other paranormal activity includes hearing disembodied voices and seeing strange orbs of light.
