A CADET of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) passed away on Saturday due to a heat stroke.

According to the statement released by the PNPA, New Cadet Rafael D. Sakkam was admitted to the intensive care unit of Qualimed Hospital in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna, on June 7 and died at about 6:01 p.m. due to cardiac arrest.

The member of PNPA Class 2026 from Sinunuc, Zamboanga City, was buried following Islamic tradition.

PNPA Director Major General Alexander J. Sampaga said the cadet suddenly became “unconscious” during a road run and was immediately taken to the nearby Qualimed Hospital, where he passed away.

The PNPA adopted tight measures and suitable interventions to “guarantee” sufficient hydration of all cadets during summer training and to prevent a repeat of the same from happening.

The academy explained that the needs of the cadet were all provided by the PNPA administration during his hospitalization until his burial, following strict Islamic tradition.

The family of the cadet is requesting privacy as they mourn his demise.

PNP Spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie DC Gonzaga said, “The PNP administration will never cease working to establish effective yet proactive approaches to our cadets’ training and development, with top priority given to their health, safety, and well-being.” By Zaida Delos Reyes and Alfred Dalizon
