THE country’s top cop appealed to the public especially motorists to follow traffic rules when traversing major roads to ensure everyone’s safety.

He said strict compliance to traffic laws will ensure the protection of not only drivers and riders but most particularly, the rest of the general public.

Gen. Guillermo Eleazar made the call amid a number of viral videos which showed both uniformed policemen, traffic enforcers and ordinary civilians fully violating traffic rules and performing dangerous stunts which may harm them and the public.

Two of them, both “riders” from the Police Regional Office 3 in Central Luzon have been sanctioned by PRO3 director Brigadier Gen. Valeriano de Leon on orders of Gen. Eleazar after they were caught on video doing highly-dangerous motorcycle stunts.

Gen. Eleazar called on civilian motorcycle riders to refrain from performing dangerous stunts in the highways which has given birth to “Kamote Riders.”Many of these notorious riders have been the subject of perennial complaints from other motor vehicle riders using major roads and highways .

In particular, “Kamote Riders” have been the object of complaints from the public and other motorists in Marilaque Road or the Marikina-Infanta Highway, a scenic 117.5-kilometer long highway that connects Metro Manila with Infanta, Quezon.

The major complaint was that these riders of small motorcycles are racing against each other or performing stunts which have caused a number of major accidents as they hit vehicles in the opposite highway.

Gen. Eleazar also referred to an incident in Zamboanga City wherein three motorcycle riders engaged into a dangerous drag race while traversing the road last September 4.

According to the PNP chief, the riders have been identified and sanctioned even as he reminded the public that the incident should serve as a lesson to drive safely and use roads properly.

Reports sent to the office of Gen. Eleazar said the licenses of the three motorcycle riders identified as Anton Jan Refran Loon, Harson Dale Feliciano Natividad, and Juniesher Ismun Bonifacio, were confiscated for violation of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
