PNPTHE Philippine National Police (PNP) headed by General Rommel Francisco Marbil is a top contributor in the huge drug haul made by law enforcement agencies of the Marcos Jr. administration in 2024, officials said.

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a total of P21.43 billion worth of shabu and other dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) were seized by the Marcos government last year.

Majority of the confiscated drugs were methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu (2.55 tons).

Others were 32.74 kilograms of cocaine; 66,540 pieces of Ecstasy; 939.73 kilograms of Kush; and 3.09 tons of dried marijuana leaves and bricks, said the PDEA.

The agency also said that the P21.43 billion seizure in 2024 is 32 percent higher than the recorded seizure of P16.24 billion in 2023.

“These substantial seizures are a testament to the government’s efforts to actively pursue high-level drug traffickers and organized criminal networks involved in the country’s illegal drug trade,” said the agency in a statement released by PDEA spokesperson Director Laurefel P. Gabales.

Those anti-drug operations were conducted by the agency together with the National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, Philippine Ports Authority, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Another P2.75 billion worth of prohibited drugs were confiscated last year by the PDEA in collaboration with the PNP.

The PNP, according to the PDEA, seized P13.10 billion worth of illegal drugs in 2024 while the NBI, in collaboration with the PDEA and the PNP, confiscated P60 million worth of drug contrabands.

The national police force last year conducted 35,201 anti-narcotics operations which led to the arrests of 46,450 target drug personalities.

On the other hand, the NBI with other law enforcement agencies launched 32 anti-drug operations which resulted in the jailing of 43 suspects.

The PNP leadership said in 2024 the police force had a successful campaign against illegal drugs, accounting for multi-billion worth of shabu and other prohibited substances and arresting nearly 55,000 targets.

Official PNP records showed that in 2024, police conducted a total of 44,907 anti-illegal drug operations which resulted in the arrest of 54,808 known drug personalities and the seizure of some P20.5 billion worth of prohibited drugs.

The total weight of confiscated shabu, marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, Ketamine and Kush last year weighed a whopping 8.163 tons.

The PNP said that there was also a 101.60 percent increase in the volume of drugs recovered in 2024 compared to the recoveries in 2023 which amounted to about P102 billion.

The PNP earlier unveiled their 4-year anti-drug campaign roadmap as they continued a nationwide all-out campaign against illegal drugs.

Developed by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group now under Colonel Rolando B. Cuya Jr., the new tact is anchored on the protection of human rights and saving lives thru a focused drug rehabilitation program while going all-out against the drug chain or flow of prohibited substance in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the Journal Group learned.

Last year, the PNP-DEG accounted for over P2.4 billion worth of shabu and other illegal substances amid its new tactic to cut off the supply of drugs in the country.
