THE Philippine National Police will continue enforcing government rules and regulations to fight COVID-19 as it helps sustain the momentum of the improving situation by maintaining the Alert Level 2 in Metro Manila for the next two weeks, PNP chief General Dionardo B. Carlos said yesterday.

The top cop made the pronouncement as supporters of different national candidates continue to gather in different venues during campaign rallies.

“Downgrading to the most lenient, Alert Level 1, can lead to complacency. It is practical to impose enough restrictions so the public will still be bound to adhere to stricter health protocol,” he said.

According to the PNP chief, they will also keep an eye on areas which have everted to Alert Level 2, except for seven places which will implement stricter protocols under Alert Level 3 or Iloilo City, Zamboanga City and the provinces of Guimaras, Davao De Oro, Davao Occidental and South Cotabato.

None of the Local Government Units in the country has been placed under Alert Level 1 yet.

The PNP considers this time to practice disciplining the public if ever moment will come that the nation will slowly implement the new normal set-up for Covid Alert Level 1, Gen. Carlos said.
